Subaru's Big Comeback: New Models Heading to WA Showrooms

Subaru has had a tough run on the sales charts lately, but the brand isn't standing still. A string of new models — including hybrids and full EVs — are either already landing in WA showrooms or confirmed to arrive soon. If you've been watching Subaru from the sidelines, the next 12 months might be worth your attention.

What's Behind the Sales Slide?

Subaru's Australian numbers tell a straightforward story: 46,000-plus deliveries in 2023, dropping to around 40,600 in 2024, and down a further 3.9 per cent to roughly 39,000 in 2025. The first five months of 2026 are even softer, sitting about 22 per cent behind the same period last year.

Inchcape, Subaru's local distributor, says that's not panic stations — it's planned. The Liberty was dropped, the STI was paused, and the range was deliberately trimmed back while new platforms and powertrains were being developed. For WA buyers used to stretching their Foresters and Outbacks across long regional runs to places like Esperance or the Pilbara, it meant fewer choices for a while.

That's changing fast.

The New Lineup Built for WA Conditions

The new-generation Forester landed in 2025 with Toyota-derived hybrid technology — a genuinely useful addition given WA's fuel prices and the amount of highway driving most Perth buyers clock up heading to the hills or down south. It was followed by a heavily updated Solterra EV with more range, more power, and lower prices than before.

Then came the new-generation Outback — still one of the most practical all-wheel-drive wagons you can buy for WA's mix of suburban streets and unsealed back roads. Hot on its heels is the Trailseeker EV, a wagon-style electric SUV that adds a third EV to the Subaru stable.

And there's more coming. The smaller Uncharted EV is confirmed for mid-2026, which should appeal to Perth buyers wanting something compact, electric, and genuinely affordable to run day-to-day.

Nine Models, Five Electrified — Here's the Bottom Line

By the end of 2026, Subaru Australia plans to have nine models in showrooms, with five of them either hybrid or fully electric. That's up from seven models in 2025, when only three were electrified. Two completely new nameplates launching in the same year is something Subaru Australia hasn't done since the Brumby and L Series days.

For WA buyers, that means more choice across more price points and more powertrain options than Subaru has offered in years. Whether you need a rugged hybrid for weekend runs to the South West, an EV for daily Perth commuting, or a proper all-wheel-drive wagon that can handle a dirt road without complaint, Subaru is clearly building a range to cover all of it.

The competition from Chinese brands — Geely, Omoda Jaecoo, and others — is real and moving quickly. Subaru's answer is a broader, more electrified lineup backed by its long-standing reputation for reliability and AWD capability. Whether that's enough to win back buyers who've drifted elsewhere is the question WA dealerships will be working hard to answer.
